Prime seeding/planting time starts Tuesday

For those who believe you get an edge planting during the correct moon phase and in a fertile water sign,like me, the prime days are almost here. So, if you are transplanting tomatoes and peppers, or sowing the seeds for mid-late May planting, here are the times (EDT):

3/23
VOC ends at 2:16 am. First Quarter Moon in Cancer (Water).

3/24
Waxing Moon in Cancer (Water). Saturn square Ceres.

3/25
Waxing Moon in Cancer (Water) goes VOC at 12:39 am and ends at 5:39 am. Moon enters Leo (Fire). Sun square Pluto.



In other words, the 23rd and 24th are the perfect days. If the astrological signs don't matter to you, but the moon phase does, the 2nd quarter moon is prime time to transplant above ground crops (March 23-28), and the 3 days before the full moon to sow seeds (March 26-28).

Barkeater, thank you for that information - I have used it for some of my early starts. Being in a short season area, I wonder if there are comparable "ideal dates" in April or early May, it is just WAY too early to start a lot of my stuff now. TIA

Hi, My neighbor plants all his seeds by the moon and has got me started on the practice. I planted my seeds by the moon last year and I can see the difference. Then I found these people Stella-Natura / working with cosmic rhythms who have published a calendar called agricultural planting guide and calendar. They are so specific in the moon cycles that they tell you what day of the month to plant and what time of the day to plant. For example if you are growing a fruit plant (tomato, cucumbers, beans) a flower plant (broccoli, artichoke,) a leaf plant (spinach, lettuce) or a root plant (beets, sweet potatoes) what day and time to plant along with the reasons if you plant one the wrong day. Their web page is WWW.stellanatura.com The calendar is very interresting reading. Good luck with your moon planting, it helped my garden.

Casino, thank you for the information and the website link. I did read through what was there to see, unfortunately any specific information is obviously on the actual calendar which I doubt can be shipped here in time to be useful for this year. Will definitely keep it in mind for January next year.

There is a site with an "astrocalender" called throughnightsfire and if you google it the March calender is there and at the end there is a link to April's astrocalender. Just remember water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) during the waxing moon in the second quarter is best.

It looks like April 19 and 20 are good sowing times. The absolute perfect time for tomato seeds, but a very small window is between 6:30 pm EDT and midnight local time on April 29. On the 29th you have everything: within 3 days of a full moon in the 2nd quarter and in a water sign. It ends at midnight because supposedly you are not supposed to plant exactly on the day of the new or full moons. (Hey, I don't make the rules!;-)

I'm not sure what the story was on Feb 27 or March 1, but I got near 100% germination on thousands of tomato seeds!

Thanks for the annual reminder....down here I did my tomatoes on 2/24, the closest I could figure to your previous years' guidance....had great germination!

You planted your seeds within a day of the full moon on February 28. I've had germination in 2 days planting tomato seeds just before full moon. I'll be starting mine this Saturday; full moon is Monday.

Barkeater, thank you for the added information. Will be planting the rest of my tomatoes on Sunday, 28/3. April 19, 20 will be perfect dates for the bulk of the "other" faster growing veggies. Will google throughnightsfire as well.
