Default Tolli's Sweet Italian

First time growing this. Photo today, 6/13/2010. First ripe fruit-I have two already. Going to let the first two hang for a couple more days and sweeten up. This variety has the first ripe fruit of my sweet peppers this year. I am growing Napoletano, Lipstick and Tolli's.

I'd be interested to know how you rate it for sweetness compared to others you've grown. Received a few seeds for it in a trade, but none germinated. I've grown Lipstick, too, and it was my earliest for a couple of seasons, but then the plant didn't fare so well in the past couple years so I didn't grow it this year. I'm looking for the earliest, sweetest when eaten raw pepper I can find. Carmen holds the honor so far for me, but it's an F1 hybrid and I'd really like to save seed.

Nice! I've got a selection of the elongated sweets growing - Chervena, Lipstick, Super Shepherd, Jimmy Nardello....all in blossom, just setting, looking great....gotta love those sweets each year!

Kath: I will post when I try it. My seed source was SSE.

Craig: Nardello is good-don't know why I didnt grow it this year. Tolli's is a nice long fat pepper, so I am really looking forward to trying it.

Thanks, much. I LOVE a sweet red pepper for eating "as is" just like apples and I'd love to find an early red reliable o.p. one. Could easily become veggie obsession #2!

I like Tolli's. The only knock on it I have is that it is thin walled. But, you can't beat the flavor. IMHO it is in the quite good to excellent category. Jimmy Nardello is also fine flavored, but I have issues with it because it is so hard to deseed.

Good luck and enjoy which I suspect will be the case when you eat the Tolli's.

Kath: I would call it quite sweet. Its now our favorite sweet pepper. Here is a photo I took yesterday with 2 casper that we had for dinner. For me, Tolli's is my earliest sweet pepper this year.

Thanks for the update-it's really pretty and I'll definitely get new seeds to try for next year. Carmen may be the only sweet pepper that produces this year-containers for the 1st time, not enough leaf growth & cover, lack of flowering/setting-none of the new o.p. varieties are doing well at all. Glad you found yourself a new winner!

I am growing Tolli's for the first time this year. I hope it looks as good as yours.

Amber-I am sure it will be-I think you will like it.

Kath: My eggplant and peppers really took off when I started weekly spray and soil drench with seastart from saltwater farms:

The owner posts here, but I have no connection to the company at all, other than as a satisfied buyer. You might want to try this product-its 0-4-4 with vites.

Thanks for the tip; I've seen several products from this company recommended here. I think it's time to take an inventory of supplies and place an order.
