If it's not one thing...
So here's my year thus far:
1) Started reeeeally late 2) drowned all my seedlings and had to buy plants 3) leaf mold attack 4) DEER!!! 5) followed rapidly by another leaf mold epidemic 6) and NOW, TOMATO WORMS (aka tobacco hornworms) I've found two, but they were very different sizes, so I assume that means I have at least two batches on my plants. I haven't been able to bring myself to kill them, so they're living in a cup of leaves on my screened in porch. Wish we had chickens!!! |

Stop being so nice and give those hornworms to your fisherman friends. I read that fish love those babies...hehehe..... Always stay POSITIVE......Tomatoes are worth it >>>>>>>>>>> Talon

I just smoosh 'em between my garden boots & one of the cinder blocks that comprise my raised bed. They remind me of a green sausage packed with what was once the beautiful foliage of my helpless tomato plants. I read that they are actually turquoise in color & that the pigmentation of the leaves turns them a green color.

I know when I first saw one I was so protective of my baby tomatos I just smooshed it but it grossed me out. Next time I found one my 9 yr old stepson and hubby came out and the 9 yr old dispatched it and "studied" it. I have never had to squish one since, they go on the hunt for them for me all the time now.

Don't forget tho that you shouldn't smoosh any of them that are parasitized. Those baby wasps will "seek and destroy" other hornworms when they hatch.
