Default eggplant problem

What is wrong with my eggplant?

the base of the fruit is kind of "woody" and it seems that the fruit is not growing any bigger...

What might be the cause and how can I prevent it in the future?

Thanks.

Be fore warned ((I AM NO EXPERT)) on eggplants.
But it looks like the fruit has insect damage on it which can cause the fruit to stop growing.
It also looks like it is the first fruit and the plant cant support it's self and the fruit.
With this said I would cut the fruit from the plant and wait and see.
It also looks like a mighty small container for the plant it may be root bound.(I'm sure it is)

Erwin:

What is the variety? If its kamo, something is wrong.

Eggplants love heat. What size is the container? I grow eggplant in a 5 gallon container in the dry desert, and they do great.

Is the planting medium too wet?

Yes its the first fruit but I'm pretty sure that the size of the plant is enough to support the fruit.

I inspected the whole fruit but couldn't see any holes that i experienced in my previous eggplants unless there is another kind of insect that can cause such damage.

About the container, I'm quite sure that the plant is not yet root bound.

Its a variety called "gwapito" from a local seed company. It similar to kamo in size but its more lighter in skin and the calyx is not dark

I'm growing it on a 3.5G container. I grew my other eggplants on that size of container and they did pretty well.

I think you are right on the medium. It is rainy here almost everyday and the plants are just exposed in the elements.

Maybe you can cover them from the rain when it pours?
