Still Picking Tomatoes in N. California - Jan 6, 2011
We have had a very mild Winter (so far) with lots of snow up in the Sierras, but no hard freezes down here in the "Valley" to date.
Indian Stripe continues to produce: And Goose Creek hasn't let me down: Taste is probably at a 7 out of the Summertime 10, but still far better than store-bought tomatoes this time of year. The Snow Peas just love this weather: And the 2 inch mesh netting to give the inner vines something to "thread" themselves on seems to be working: The NuMex Peppers are still hanging in there: And the radishes are quite prolific: ...kind of strange that I started all of my seedlings for the 2011 Season yesterday... the "cycle" seems to keep going. Ray, What beautiful fruits you have and what a nice treat it must be
to have even remotely close to summer-time taste. Bought the best looking tom in the grocery store for a burger; I think it probably detracted from the taste! |

Dust,
This has been the "warmest" Winter that I can recall in the past 10 years. Not complaining, but it is certainly concerning re: Global Warming. Raybo |

Looking at potential winter weather advisory here this weekend in East Texas.
Raybo I am very jealous. I prepared this tomato pasta sauce with "vine ripened tomatoes" after making the sauce I was so dissapointed. Taste is bland to bad. ok not much taste no matter how much onion garlic and other spices I added. I am very tempted to make the treck all the way to your house and steal a mater or two just for flavor. All I accomplished in getting past summer was some cherry tomatoes and tomotillos. I am glad to see you are doing so well this far intot he season. Congradulations~ Kat |

I wish that was true here in the Southwest! we have already had 3 hard freezes, and many nights of 32 and below.
I am sick of it being so cold, and it does not seem like it will warm up soon. |
