Deer and water scarecrow!
I now have 2 visual data from my 20x20 garden and the water-scarecrow.
Last night, I watched as a deer came within 10 ft of garden plants when it tripped the water-scarecrow and the deer shot off. This morning 2 deer approached and 1 deer came up behind the densest tomato section, so the water-scarecrow took about 45 seconds before it sensed motion. But when it tripped the deer(both) jumped straight up in the air, scared (to death hopefully) then darted off. I lost a couple limbs off a cherokee purple, but it would have been much worse without the water-scarecrow! Very happy to see it work and know I can breathe a little easier while waiting for all my fruit to ripen. Thanks Craig for recommending it! |

One line of surveyer's tape around the perimeter of your garden will keep the deer out.

the deer last year before I told him to get the scarecrow. I've only had one incident this year... the one night I forgot to turn the scarecrow sprinkler on! Lee

I will have to try the surveyors tape on the side of the garden the deer stripped the branches off my cherokee purple.
Next door neighbors have a 4 foot chain length and a parallel 6 foot privacy fence that was erected just to deter the deer from their garden. And this year they have had terrible deer damage. I will tell them about the surveyors tape and we will see how the season progresses. |

Surveryor's "tape" is used by them to mark points or property lines. I have never had a deer try to go over or under it. Had problems with them several years ago and a neighbor told me about it.....works like a charm. You can get it at Tractor Supply stores...usually in bright colors....sort of day-glo pink, green, etc.

I've had good luck with these sprinklers, But one year if I didn't move them around and the deer got use to them. Then it was come on in boys and girls the waters fine. I still get sprayed now and then but the grand kids love them.
