It's Bunny & Woodchuck season
I caught a woodchuck and rabbit in my garden today eating my lettuce and parsley. I have a 5' fence around my garden that is buried in the ground for a couple of inches in most spots to keep out animals. To my surprise the rabbit and woodchuck were able to squeeze through the 2"x3" mesh of the fence. As a matter of fact that rabbit ran through it as if it wasn't even there. So now I have rabbit and woodchuck problems besides the chipmunk and squirrel problems and of course raccoons at night.
I'm starting to feel like Elmer Fudd. "Shhh, I'm hunting wabbit" |

cloz,
That must be the smallest woodchuck in the world to squeeze through 2"x3" mesh! You sure it didn't go under the fence?

I've watched in disbelief as a woodchuck climbed over the fence around my garden. Rabbits can squeeze through seemingly impossible spaces, especially the young ones.
If it wasn't for the dog I'd electrify the fence. |

It is a small one. This years obviously. We usually have a big fat one around here and he can't get through. I've caught him digging under a couple of times but he has pretty much given up. The bunnies are this years also and have been around here since they were tiny. I have not bothered the bunnies because they have stayed out of the garden and I thought they were big enough now not to fit through. Boy was I wrong. He ran through there at full tilt with me chasing him with a tomato stick. There is a full size bunny here too, but he stays on the other side of the yard and just eats grass. I don't mind free lawn mowing service.
