Default chocolate/purple cherry problem

Not sure what this is, I've googled the common stuff and it doesn't *look* like anything I can quite put a finger on.

the good with the bad

better view of the bad:

leaves pop out and look good for a while, then they get kinda sickly, then they just dry up. I sprayed the plants with daconil thinking it was a fungal problem, but that had little effect. Haven't noticed an abundance of insect activity on these plants (they're on the other side of the yard from the main garden), and the plants are still setting fruit (although not as productive as one would like/think).

What am I missing here? is this a possible nutrient issue since they're in containers and not the garden?
