Default Brandywine From Croatia - - Now We're Talking! (pics)

You may remember my post of 3 weeks ago where I sampled the first ripe Brandywine from Croatia. Frankly, it was a little "mild" - - and I rationalized this as being typical of a first ripe fruit, as well as it having grown on the North side of the plant without any sunshine on it.

Now, I am in these tomatoes, big time:

I've never seen a Brandywine as prolific as this variety is:

Multiple clusters of very large fruit:

This one looked ready for the sample plate, weighing in at just under a pound:

....and moments later:

The taste has improved significantly over the past 3 weeks. Taste is most comparable to my Stump Of The World. But the Brandywine from Croatia plant is 5 times as productive. Remember, this is a Pink, so the flavor is not as "sharp" as a Red Brandywine variety - - but very enjoyable. Will definitely grow these again next year.

Jane,

I'll be doing a general seed offer of these, exclusively for Tomatoville members, later in September. Just watch for the Thread posting in about a month.

Wowza they are impressive. What a deep red that is...almost some purple tinges. Wonder how they'll do in heat?

Dewayne,

The "problem" I envision with this Variety in Texas, is the relatively long Days To Maturity. In your short growing Season(s), I would be concerned that you would get into extreme heat before they ripen.

In any event, I'll be happy to send out these seeds to anyone so that they can give it a go in their own area.

Timbo,

No SASE will be necessary. I don't believe in wasting Postage. I'll be putting out the offer in late September - but just for Tomatoville Members only. Stay tuned.....

Ray, I'm currently growing your Goose Creek which has been one of the most productive in the garden this year. I look forward to trying your Brandywine as well.

Keep up the good work !!!!

Hi Raybo,

Beautiful plants! What is the average size of these fruits? Is the 15.5 oz. one in your picture above typical, or do they run smaller or larger? I am amazed at the productivity of these plants.
