Mystery Squash.....Or Not.....

Hey everyone!........This huge winter squash was given to me by a neighbor who received it from her daughters garden. She has no idea what kind it is and neither do I. I know nothing about winter squash. If anyone could tell me what kind of squash this is, I would really appreciate it, and, if you can direct me to some recipes for winter squash, that would be great. I have never cooked it before. Thanks!!

It's hard to say for sure, but my guess is that it's some type of cushaw - a type of winter squash.

It looks like some have crooked necks, but others are straight like the one in your photo. I've not grown cushaw myself, so maybe someone has a better idea.

I found out what this squash is...It is called 'Winter Greek Sweet red" I am going to save the seeds so I should have some to share if anyone is interested.

That's funny because I'm growing Greek Sweet Red this year. I'm sure I could have correctly identified it if my darn plant had set any fruit

Awww Fortyonenorth.........Sorry about your squash. I tried growing Lemon Cucumbers this year. I finally pulled them out as the only thing they were producing was powdery mildew. I know how ya feel.
