Default Pot Size, Type and Soil Mix

Ok so i have a several Thai Hot, Aji Cristal and Tangerine Dream peps that need to be transplanted within the next few weeks. I tried searching on here and couldnt find the answers I was looking for.

What size Pot is the min used for healthy production?

What type of pot? (clay, plastic, smartpots, wood box)

What type of soil/ess planting medium used?

I am not interested in self watering or 5 gal buckets and asthetics should be taken into account to a certain extent as it will be in my front yard...maybe im asking too much

I welcome suggestions, thanks.

I plant my peppers in 3 gallon pots and they do fine. I just mix my garden soil with compost and keep them watered. Most serious container growers would not like my choice of medium, but it works for me.

Thanks Mudman! I finally got one response

I found some thread where NCtomatoman uses MG Potting Mix and Manure in 5 gl bags. I watched his video and no way do those bags seem to be 5gl. They seem more like 2-3 gal.

I have mine in 1 gallon grow bags in the greenhouse(plants are 2-3 foot tall). And I already have peppers all over. If I was putting them outside, I would use 3 gallon grow bags. MG potting mix with compost does seem to work the best. Ive also used deep 12" pots for the Purple Tigers and a few others, to make some of the decks, walkways look nice.

I've got several of my peppers in 3-5 gal. pots and am trying MG moisture control potting mix for the first time. The peppers are doing very well but it's strange only watering a container plant once a week, especially with the hot temperatures we've had recently. I keep going out there thinking it's gotta be time to water, but no.

The nice thing about hot peppers is that they are incredible un-fussy as to pot size - the ones I want to eat the most of get 5 gallon, and for evaluative purposes, 1 gallon is just fine.

I've been using a mix of Miracle Gro Potting MIX (not soil) and composted cow manure for years with great results.

I'll agree with that! Mine are still in the basement, under lights, in 6 inch pots, and I actually harvested two cayennes off one plant last week! There are a few more peppers growing on other plants as well. They will all be moved outside this weekend, and into 5 gallon bags by the following weekend.

Thanks guys!

I have 3 and 5 GL bags on order. I'll use the 3 gal for peppers and 5 gal for the dwarfs I'm starting for a late season.
