A few from my walk about the garden and driveway today
Quite a few - mix of this and that. you can get the tomato name by hovering over the file.
I guess I should explain a bit about what you are looking at - the top row of pics - the first 8 - are from our 30 X 50 foot garden on the side of our house. Other than many small (1 gal) pots of hot peppers from my ornamental hot pepper project (overflow from the driveway), and a front row of indeterminate cherry tomatoes, there is basil, beans, blueberries - then squash, melons - then lettuce (now gone), beets, chard, kale and asian greens. This is the garden that the woodchuck has been bothering. Two water scarecrows effectively keep out the deer. The rest of the pics are from our driveway, which is now home to 500 or so pots of various sizes. The nice pale yellow pepper is a hot named Bella - this is a plant I wintered over in the garage - from last year. The big nearly ripe red tomato is Giant Syrian - 50 days from transplant, and will be a pound!

that sure looks like a lot of work.... That yellow pepper is beautiful, just wish it wasn't a hot one.
Just wondering if you don't mind me asking, how much of an increase in your water bill during the summer? My DH is worried about how much our water bill will go up when I start planting out. thanks

Impressive as usual.....inspirational to me to see large peppers on a relatively small plant, perhaps there is some hope for me!

WOW! Your plants are stunningly beautiful! I love the driveway and tomato plant forest shots -- they all look so healthy.

Two water scarecrows effectively keep out the deer. Could you explain?

Sure - they are available on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Contech-CRO101...ater+scarecrow
I position one at each end of the gardens (two for each garden) for any possible approaches -their sensors have wide sweeps (when we walk out our front door, it sets off the one in the large garden 100 feet at least away). And on a hot day I leave them on and set them off on purpose to cool me off! Water bill goes up no more than 10.00 per month in the summer - typical during the year for us is 30-35/mo, in the summer 45-50.00 per month.

I love your Tomato Jungle. Your neighbors must be able to smell the tomatoes. Hats of to you, a lot of work has gone into this grow.

I like that, PA Julia.....yes, tomatoes do rule in our driveway! It is already getting hard to move between the rows - and it is still June (yikes!). And we are probably a few gusty thunderstorms away from a pick up sticks effect. Hopefully not for a few weeks, since it is hard to tell which tomato belongs to which plant once that happens!

Great garden Craig. I've also seen your videos on your website and was just wondering if your in-ground garden gets morning shade or afternoon shade? I can't tell from the pics. I always had troubles when I had morning shade and afternoon heat. The other way around was better.

Looks beautiful! How do you water the containers?
There must be something I'm missing. My container plants have never surpassed in-ground plantings. |
