Tomatoes and some Garden Photo's

Hi!!

Here are some photo's of a couple of my heirloom varieties.

First two photo's) Paul Robeson is producing some really large tomatoes thus far.

Second two photo's) White Queen as the name implies is a white tomato and many are also very large.

My sweet corn is approx. 4.5 to 5 ' high and most stalks are beginning to tassel.

The last photo is my Atlantic Giant named Jet Jaguar after the 60's Japanese Sci-Fi character that would occasionally team up with Godzilla to fight Mothra and Megalon.

This photo was taken yesterday at 16 days after pollination.
As you can see he is growing rapidly and of course he has to in order to help save Tokyo from enemy monsters in September.

Lucky you PR's are so rich taste, i eat them with nice cheese, blue or Feta, Vermont Cheddar, or any others i have. I do not cook them or use in salads, they are too wonderful.

Yes! I'm going to enjoy eating Paul's with a nice cheese or simply by themselves.

I see that your still letting Jet Jaguar drink diet soda. You might get faster growth if you let him drink non-diet soda. Looking good Julia. Hope you make the 600 lb. mark.

Stunning Julia won't be long now ! That white queen is going on my must have list for next year. may I ask whom you got the seeds from?

Well he does have to be fighting monsters coming up you know! LOL!!!!
I hope I make the 600 LB mark as well.

I can taste those White Queens now! Delicious!

I purchased the seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds located here; http://www.rareseeds.com/

They were extremely friendly, courteous and sent me a personal e-mail to tell me they were shipped.

I have not seen White Queen listed anywhere else.

It's great to see that you are wanting to grow these as well.

I'm impressed by just how much fruit is set on my three plants.

I really think you'll be pleased.

Jet is looking good! My kids are after me every year to grow a giant pumpkin, but I think I'd need to get out my old ice carving tools to make a giant jack-o-lantern for them. The prospect of moving one is intimidating as well.

How did your white queen set fruit through the heat? I'm growing this as well and the first flower cluster set well but the two that opened during the heat wave just dried up.

Hi Mark,

Luckily for us here in eastern PA the heat, even though it was in the nineties and one day close to the century mark has been tolerable and we have avoided the majority of it thank God.

Fruit set during the real hot days did not occur, however what you see in the photos and some that are a bit smaller were set a few weeks ago.

It's great that your growing White Queen.

Tell me Mark, how are yours doing?

Jet is growing very well. I think I'll hit the 600 LB mark.
I have a hitch on my car and if I think I have a decent rookie year pumpkin to weigh I'll rent a trailer at U-Haul and take it to our areas pumpkin weighoff in Doylestown about 30 minutes south of here.

If that time comes I'll have to bring in some strong guys to haul it out.

The really big ones are hoisted out of the fields by cranes.

At the end of it all I'm going to carve it up and have a nice LARGE Jack-O-Lantern.

Mine are doing good, better than last year when it was cool and wet. By the pictures your early fruit set was a bit heavier than mine, I think I've got 5 tomatoes on the first cluster but I can't remember beyond that.

I'm hoping some of the varieties I'm seeing heavy fruit set on through the heat taste good, my parents deal with the temperatures we've been having every summer.

It's been " In the right place at the right time " for the most part concerning my garden this year.

I've fertilized a total of three times with water soluble fertilizer since planting and used Tomato Tone at the onset as I was planting them in ground.

Thanks , I was reading the description over BC, they are fragrant ? do the plants themselves have a fruity aroma? I am amazed at some of the different smells coimg off the ones I have going over here. Now if this cold coastal weather would just warm up a bit more

The White Queens don't have a scent as of yet but my plants sure do.
Different types have different scents of that same familiar tomato plant smell.
I love that smell so much!!
