so far, so good
This is my first attempt at growing tomatoes in containers. I put them in 5 gallon buckets with drainage. They are supported with 3 bamboo sticks and zip ties. I use mixed soils, and feed with tomato fertilers. So far so good. Most were started off in the solar space, then moved to a closche.
Cloche was too hot so I moved them to just outside it. We started getting tomatoe on 4 June. Not bad for Maine! Then some of my main garden crop of tomatoes started to show damage from herbicide. I had use a crab grass killer two years ago on the lawn that is now garden. In a knee jerk reaction, I qickly transplanted a dozen more tomatoes into containers. I bought the plants at a nursery. They are now blooming and setting on fruit. I do plan to set some of those in the ground when I can get it all ready. But for now all seem well with daily watering and weeking feedings. In the past few years, I get wiped out with LB, but this year I plan to treat as soon as I hear the problem is anywhere around. Container growing is very interesting, and a bit more work. I am looking forward to the rewards.
