Default Double Helix Vernissage

Here is a picture of a few from Double Helix Farms. This includes the Vernissage Black, Vernissage Pink and Vernissage Yellow all showing nice striping which I hope show up ok in the photo. There were a couple Green Zebra's in the crate as well.
Recommend these toms and I am guessing my customers will like them too!

I was looking at those for next year, happy to see your reccomendation.

You're going to be popular at the market! I checked the downtown market out this morning and the one stand that had a sign for local tomatoes had a line. Mostly red beefsteaks but I did see a box of yellow salad tomatoes.

These are really nice and had some good flavor as well the yellow's being a little more mild as expected. The black's are very striking...photo doesnt do them justice. My son loves this size tom on salads....about ping pong or a little larger.

My friends that have the Italian restaurant asked for a variety of interesting salad sized tomatoes this year, that's the size they like. Next year I'm hoping to grow out a bunch of the new cherries coming from Artisian Seeds and some more of the salad sized varieties.

I have high hopes for the Artisan Seeds new lines. I sure hope they get into production as planned with a release of seed at the end of the year.

Granite,

If the Vernissage tomatoes did not have stripes. Would their flavor be enough reason to grow them?

well the flavor was good not great. Its not like it was a stunner for flavor. Some really liked them others thought they were ok. That said you raise an interesting question. As I sell the toms the appearance is important to drive sales and stripes/bi-colors seem to sell. Flavor profile and what people think is good really seems to vary. I guess we all like different tastes. LOL I guess I didnt really answer your question....maybe??? I can say I have high hopes for the Bumble Bee series and plan on putting in quite a few plants for this years sales. Also trying out Blush and Maglia Rosa. Cant wait for more offerings from you....great job!

Thanks Granite,

I was just curious. One of my biggest fears is that I am not subjecting my striped tomatoes to the same standards as the better non-striped varieties, and that customers will tell me about it.

Crossing my fingers that your customers like our tomatoes.

I do agree that people buy with their eyes. I have lost many a dollar at the farmers market because I didn't have all the right colors (too many black tomatoes...)

I grew Pink Vernissage last year and liked it. But it's especially good as a dried tomato! It's as easy to dry as a cherry tomato -- slice in half -- and it develops a rich flavor that tastes like other ingredients have been added. I've dried other cherry tomatoes and they don't come close.

I can now answer my own question: I concur with Habitat Gardener -- Pink Vernissage is great! Very nice flavor. Sweet and fruity.
