Mystery Striped Yellow
This is the yellow that showed up from Brad Gate's Solar Flare seeds for me, there is a thread here where several people mentioned getting yellows from it. It is not AAA Sweet Solano which I've been growing for the past couple of years and it's definately striped not spotted so it's not Spot Yellow. They run anywhere from 6-10 oz, have nice striping, clean flavor and seem to have just a touch of antho on the shoulders but that may be wishful thinking. I've saved seeds and if I get something similar next year I'll be crossing them with the two other yellow antho lines I have now and seeing if I can come up with a yellow with striking antho stripes.

If it isn't just the shadow, it looks like there might be a touch of "blue" in the second photo. : )

No, it is on there. I had one other yellow out of Tom Wagner's Searching for the Blue Zebra that has a similar shadowed/speckled appearance on the shoulders, but that one is a small one.
I'm thinking someone might have squeezed a tomato into the wrong seed bucket or something like that and I got something new and fun to play with. |

I am thinking I remember you emailed Brad. Did you ever hear back?

No, never heard back. Somewhat understandable this time of year, he made a comment on their facebook page about being a tomato slave working 7 days a week getting only a few hours sleep a day.
I'd also asked seperately about the tomato tasting events as I was thinking of going out there while visiting a customer in Palo Alto next month and never heard back about that either. If I go I'll have to restrain myself from spitting seeds into napkins. I'm rather curious to see how one could manage that many acres of tomatoes, as well as seeing the lines he's currently working on. I also want to see if just the fields around the farm stand are pretty and weed free like in the pictures so I can feel better if I decide to try a larger planting next year. I know I won't be hand weeding even more plants than I had this year. If I go I'll try to ask him if he has any idea what this one might be. Did yours look similar? |

The next one is Sept. 9. It's the last of 4. I looked it up last month because I had a relative from the east coast visiting and was looking for things to do. I didn't get there, though. |

That's the one. Have you been to one of them before?
I was curious if they were more formal or informal and if Brad actually runs the show. I've quit going out for winemaker events because so many of them were stiff and stuffy with the person you came to see only putting in a token appearance. |

I'm not sure it's antho or some strange sunscald, this plant is the first one in it's row on the south end of the garden so it's getting some pretty intense sun. It may be wishful thinking...

I'm also growing Solar Flare and had it throw out yellows. I thought maybe there was a mix-up when I was labeling. I don't have any antho on the shoulders. The more sun exposure, the striping seems to diminish. I'm growing 3 plants, two are yellow with green striping, one is red with yellow striping. I got the seeds from Brad this year. I've really been enjoying the pepper plants from the seeds you shared. The Yellow Morouga has been phenominal!!! Thanks!!!! Don't know what's up with Solar Flare?
