Name of sauce
Well in another couple of weeks I will strain, bottle and seal my sauce.
2 different test batches. Now I'm looking for a name that will be marketable, polite, give a feeling of heat, purity and the fact that they are being grown on the foothills of New Zealands 2nd highest volcano...and no it's not extinct. For years it was thought of as being extinct but it blows regulary in large eruptions every 300 years. Last eruption...320 years ago. Tick...tick...tick. A name with a bit of zing though.. The names of 90% of hot sauces on the net are..well to be honest..they are embarassing or unsaleable. bowel remover, rectum reamer, pain 95%, show us your t*ts, and I think I will stop there. Any ideas folks?... Alas..Tabasco has been taken! Regards Glenn |

Won the Footy Again.
Hi Glenn,
What's the name of the volcano? How about Lava Sauce? Or Glenn's Piquant Pepper Sauce? Or Haka Hot Sauce. Yeh, that's it. Have a good one, Grub. |

Hi Grub...
Mt Egmont or Mt Taranaki or Mt Egmont/Taranaki depending on which pc school you went to. Haka Hot Sauce sounds good but I have an idea that the Haka bit may be copyrighted by the Maori..... BTW...have you heard from Rosco lately..just worrying I guess. Kia ora Kaitoa Haere Mai* *TM Cheers Glenn |

Been wondering where Rosco was myself? I'm not sure that I have his email addy, but maybe you could drop him a line?
How about Hot Taranaki Sauce? Might get some Japanese interest. I'll think of something on the golf course .... |

I think Papa's post does bring up a really good point though. You should make sure the name reflects the sauce such as its level of heat and taste. A person shouldn't judge a book by its cover but most shoppers will make quick judgements based on names, colours and graphics on packaging so try to reflect the sauce as best you can in the name and packaging. |

Hi Glen,
Dependant on the heat scale (1-10) of the sauce. Good names could be: Taranaki's Torture (8-10) (This one most properly would be made of Hab's) Taranaki's Magma (7-8 ) Taranaki's Trouble (4-6) Taranaki @ rest (0-3) (I've taken some names already mentioned here by Dokutaaguriin an Papa Vic and adapted other's ). I hope that the names reflect the heat scale properly.

Oh wow!...Thats our mountain alright. These ideas are great...really! I appreciate them.
The sauce ...well sauces actually have been made from Rocotos, they do well here in our temperate zone. One is a mix of seeded rocoto with leaves of kawa kawa a native wild vine/tree related to the black pepper of commerce (and Kava Kava..but non narcotic). Both cooked and mixed with vinegar and salt. The other is a lot hotter with lime juice, canola and salt with a bit of vinegar. These rocotos are unseeded. I have picked more today for a third test. I may try just Rocotos and salt...a bit like tabasco. Then ferment them. Sirtanon...that hump on the left side is Fantams Peak. I have climbed to the top on our yearly "open climb" when literally hundreds climb under supervision. A lot younger and far more healthy. No ones ever died on that climb of accidents but our mountain is deadly as it is so accessable. 7 nurses went over a bluff in the 1940s...all roped together. A tragic day for our local hospital...I can imagine the trauma. My son in the air force was camped on the mountain top early December 2004 after a cessna missed going over the top of the mountain by only 20 metres. He was with the army Iroquois that removed all the bits. Anyway I appreciate the ideas and look forward to any more. Once again Thank You. Glenn |

Hi Glenn
And I offer Taranaki Torment! Maybe you should make different batches of sauce so that all names are used according to the level of heat! Cheers.

How about Taranaki Treasure volcanic pepper sauce? Sounds hot, but a little less, um... painful.
