Thanks guys. The big Morougas (center) were started in january, the rest in february. They were all started under 6400K T5s, now under a 3800K MH. I do want to switch it out to a cooler bulb- getting lots of buds.

Hey Scott. No this is my first year growing them. I initially bought a Morouga from a garden center to make a deer-repellent oil spray. It worked really well, but the plant died when I brought it in for winter (aphids). I make my own salsa so thought I'd grow some more varieties - the Morougas are too darn nuclear to eat.

I just started seed yesterday for Trinidad Scorpion, Bhut Red, Douhglas and a bunch of other super hots. I can't wait to see what the flavor is like mixed with other peppers in a fermented hot sauce!

Relic, these peppers look absolutely gorgeous - you surely know how to make them very happy!
Love the pictures, they made my mouth water just thinking about the hot bounty you'll be getting in summer!

Scott- Promix BX, and watered with untreated well water, flavored with a bit of 20-20-20
Tracey- use sparingly or the only flavor you will taste is extreme pain. lol Tania- chili oil I made last fall certainly made the hungry deer mouths water. First thing I have ever used that worked to repel them. |

Good to know - I also use the Promix BX.
I marinate the superhots in a 50-50 mix of water and vinegar, and use the solution to flavor various dishes. The heat is cut by the vinegar, but you still get a great taste and plenty of heat. Knead a little of this liquid in ground sirloin to get a really great hamburger with a nice pepper finish. If you keep it in the fridge, the flavored vinegar lasts a year or more. |

I used to have the nicest hostas in the neighborhood, hundreds of varieties. Last summer we had real bad drought, as I'm sure you did in NJ too. Hostas are very succulent- one morning I too didnt have a leaf in sight. Total annihilation. But the last straw was when they knocked down and ate a huge patch of sunflowers. I am growing the Morougas strictly for more oil spray. 1 taste and they avoid it like the plague. ha!

I wonder if the superhot oil would work to detract tomato-hungry squirrels!
