Strawberry Patch
http://www.durgan.org/URL/?YHGSE 30 May 2013 Strawberry Patch
This little patch of June Bearing strawberries delivers many quality berries.I pick around 20 pounds over a three week period. I tried growing Alpine and Everbearing but found them poor quality. The June Bearing appear to be the best for my area. The patch must be protected from birds or not one berry will be left.Robins are the main culprit |

How do you protect them from the birds. I planted strawberries last year and the plants have a lot of blossoms this year.

http://www.durgan.org/URL/?WTEUN 31 May 2012 Bird Protection Bird destruction on my strawberries, cherries, and blueberries is almost 100% without protection. Robins devastate the strawberries and a combination of birds destroy the cherries and blueberries. After trying various ineffectual methods, I settled on fibre glass screening. The screening is strong, wont tear, doesn’t snag, and does no harm to the birds. It was purchased in a roll, eight feet wide, and 100 feet long. It is simply placed over the berries and removed as required for picking. It is heavy enough to stay in place with relatively strong winds. |

Looks good, I have been trying strawberries on a small scale for awhile. My problem is if they touch the ground they rot, how do I stop this?

The wood chips used for mulch sort of lift the fruit bearing branches and keep the berries from the really wet soil.
