Default My New Personal Best; 4.46 LB Big Zac

Hi everyone,

This morning I removed from the vine what would become my new personal best in giant tomato growing.

This is my 4.46 pound tomato from the strain Big Zac which is a hybrid developed by Minnie Zaccaria of Long Branch NJ for the purpose of developing multiple fused blooms capable of growing giant tomatoes.

My 4.46 pound Big Zac came from a five flower fused bloom that showed successful pollination on July 5th.

It circumference is 23 1/2 inches.

This is my third and final entry in the giant tomato contest sponsored by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth.

I took it to be weighed and verified today at the Pennsylvania Division of Weights and Measures.

This concludes my giant growing season.

Thanks for gawking at it.

Julia, do you always exceed expectations when you put your mind to it?

Because when you were talking about growing giant veggies last year, I had no idea that you would be able to do this!

Thanks guys!!

@ Livinonfaith, well my friend I just decided that I was going to be a player and a serious competitor in the giant tomato growing community.

So after that decision was made, I set out to achieve that goal.
This was my first serious season for growing giants.

In order to focus my entire time and attention to it I grow nothing but giants.

It is my goal to achieve the PA state record and beyond.
I have a ways to go for that so I must keep busy learning.

Thanks again.

THAT is not only a contender for the biggest, but also a contender for the ugliest! Congrats Julia!

Whoa! That's a big one! So then after you have it officially weighed and verified, what happens to it? Do you let it ripen, seed it, eat it or put it in stasis in the freezer/fridge until the contest is over? How many individual big tomato plants did you have going this summer, and how big was your runner up?

Default Very Nice

What fun, good for you. I was going to post a pic of my biggest which is 2.975lbs, but it would look like a grain of sand compared to your slab. We called ours the Brain, kinda looked like your tomato, but way smaller

Looks like a mothership convention.

By the way, thanks for the referral of Marv's book.
