Default The last Hillbilly

Last Hillbilly of the year is a big ole 15 oz. one. Pretty tasty, of course, but the real beauty of this variety is, well... it's beauty! It's like art on a plate.

Bye, bye until next year, dear Hillbilly. I shall miss you.

Beautiful! YUM!

Hillbilly is one of the varieties that I had to give up when I moved from coastal California to a much shorter season here in the high desert. Sigh. Maybe I'll have to try again and see if Hillbilly responds to being started early in a Wall O'Water.

I bought some Hillbilly plants from a local nursery last year. The first 4-5 tomatoes were beautiful and about 1lb each. Once summer rolled in they remained productive but all of the fruit became small, inedibly rubbery and hollow. They were planted in 3 different beds with different conditions, but all had the issue. I had 20 plants of other varieties unaffected by the issue. Has anyone else had trouble with Hillbilly tomatoes getting puffy in the heat?

I bought seeds this year hoping that the ones I got from the nursery were a bad strain. Fingers crossed!
