I have never grown one but you can grow them vertically and here is how you would do it.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...58187178,d.b2I You can Google Supporting melons and click on images and see all sorts of things people do. Nylon stockings to little hammocks to net sacks like onions come in. Worth |

We have grown this one vertically, for two years in a row. They are heavy -- up to 4 pounds, but it worked when I supported them with some panty hose. I like Crane melons because they change color when they are ripe. No guessing! I absolutely detest the taste of melons, but I grow them for my husband and son.

OK
And what about the taste of crane melons? I've grown melons vertical before, but crane melons are rather heavy...that's why I ask. |
