Now I have to organize the darned things!

Just five bags full and one variety or one cross per bag, or are they all mixed up and now you have to sort them all out and will end up with maybe 50 bags?

What was that ditty I used to know about sheep and so many bags of wool?And I'm trying hard to remember the name of the original person, he died young, who was selling oxi-clean on TV. He could sell anything.

I hate it when I can't remember something so I Googled it and yes, it was Billy Mays.

I wish it was only 50! 1 variety (or segregate from the crosses) per envelope. Around 560 total. They'll (eventually) be organized alphabetically in baseball card sheets in 3 ring binders.

I find it strange that people would buy a product which is advertised with increased volume and somebody shouting at them. It had the reverse effect on me as I will never buy the product. I must be in the minority.

No doubt the Oxi-clean method is the way to go. Quick, no mess, and stink free (spouse friendly ). I use the Oxi-Clean "free" which doesn't have any scents or anything else weird in it. I also think the bit of chlorine it has in it helps kill seed-surface pathogens (good if you're trading seeds). I've found the key is to use about 1/2 cup of hot (115 degree) water in the cup with your seeds and 2/3 tbsp of Oxi-clean. Stir till dissolved, let sit 45 minutes, pour in fine strainer, rinse WELL, dry on paper plates. I've consistently had germination well north of 90% with that method.

It was my first year saving seeds, and I used Oxi-Clean. Thanks for the tip about using hot water. I didn't think of that. Sometimes I would forget what I was doing and leave the seeds in the solution longer than 45 minutes. But I just tested my seeds and have what looks like 100% germination.

I just weighed some of them, too, and I saved way too many. Estimating by weight, for several of them I have over 1000 seeds. lol. No one needs that many. I am going to do a seed offer here for several of them.

You can NEVER save too many seeds!!!!!
45 minutes is a starting place. Tend to save seeds in batches of 50 varieties at a time, and by the time I rinse out the last cup's worth, it's often been an hour plus to no ill effect.

I agree. I tend to save LOTS of seeds, as it lets me not worry about germination rates.
