Franks and Lipstick Photos

Craig sent me Lipstick and Jeanne sent me Franks. Franks fruited earlier and I just picked the first one-the wife is going to roast it tonight for my supper. Several more Franks are getting ready to redden up. Lipstick is much further behind. Because they are both in the greenhouse during the winter, I am sure their dtm's are delayed.

I am drooling! LOL It will be ages before I have ripe peppers - sweet or hot. My most advanced plants are ready to open their flowers.

Skip-what are you growing? I expect these sweet peppers to be slow in producing, since it is cold here-the greenhouse gets heated up during the day (yesterday, the high was 80 degrees f) but still some fruit is better than none at this time of year.

Hi Michael

Not one of my pepper seeds of numerous varieties germinated as we had a few really hot days in spring and the seeds were cooked in the seed raising mix. Consequently, I only have growing plants that I was given.

One colleague (of Greek descent) gave me some plants that her mother raised up. Another colleague (of Croatian descent) gave me some plants that her father raised up. Neither one could tell me what varieties they were, or even if they were sweet or hot.

Hungarian friends gave me some plants of the Bogyoz variety and maybe one other.

It will be fun seeing what I get when the peppers ripen but I will definitely be making sure the seed raising mix doesn't overheat next season!

Spatz-I will post a photo of the plant with ripe fruit, I should have taken that photo with the fruit on it, but just didnt. Skip-keep us posted on how those peppers from your friends turn out please.

I take it Frank is a sweet one. I am having great success with my hot and sweet peppers during this first serious year of growing them.

My second batch of babies includes Lipstick?

Grub-will be happy to-I think you will like it. It sweet, early and very dwarf. I am going to save seed from the New Years Eve harvest of 3 peppers (which is great that I am getting ripe fruit since its freezing outside-our lows are about 26 degree f, -3.33 c now-my highs in the glasshouse are about 78 f, with lows at about 55-59 f). Lipstick is also in the greenhouse, but its a ways off from ripe fruit. I am getting into sweet peppers now, have several from seeds from italy I am going to grow.

I always enjoy your posts. I think it was you who got me on the dwarf tomato train. You do very well in your greenhouse.

Now, having buttered you up, if you would like to share seeds of any peppers that you enjoy just let me know. :wink:

I had my first sampler of homegrown peppers tonight — Anaheim, Hungarian wax, Variegata, all in a Thai Beef Salad, and yum.

Meanwhile, my two-year old Orange Hab is so loaded it's crazyyyyyyyy... and sooooooooo hot.
