Mold
Yesterday I noticed a filmy/webby grey substance covering the soil on my outdoor containers. I assume this is mold. Is this from the weather or from the soil? I used Miracle-Gro potting mix in all my containers as I do every year. Will the mold harm my plants? We are expecting even more rain today and tomorrow, so I cannot control the moisture at this time.
Does anyone know how to get rid of it? I've never seen it before. Even though I didn't use this brand, I read this article: http://blackgold.bz/mold-in-potting-soil/ And then saw this article about adding cinnamon..... http://joemacho.hubpages.com/hub/Moldy-Potting-Soil We haven't had exceptionally warm temperatures yet this season, and had quite a bit of rain and cloudy days (with more rain predicted 5 days out of the next 7). Thanks, Donna

That mix is 60% peat. I'm thinking it is actually a lichen, not a mold. If so, it's harmless and nothing to worry about.

I've had stuff that sounds like that on my potting soil. I thought it was mold. I just scraped it off and it didn't come back. It might not hurt to move your plant under the eaves or something and let it dry out a little if you can though.

Thanks for the replies.
After I saw the word "lichen," I looked it up - none of the google web images looked like what I have. Mine is white, filmy, powedery, or webby. I will scrape it off today, after the rain. I have no place to shelter the containers. I'll just wait to see what happens. Thanks. This is what it looks like - I hope this link works: http://st.houzz.com/simgs/3a42ad2e04...ome-design.jpg the above pic is from google images
