Best place to buy unusual hot pepper seeds?
Going through my seed stash, and find myself very low on pepper seeds. Which is fine...I am growing a few old favorites, Bulgarian Carrot, Jalapeno, Jamaican Hot Yellow and Kung Pao. I want something a bit more unusual...no habs this year! What is the best place to go for a good variety. TGS just doesn't have enough variety for me. Thanks in advance. Duane

SSE has a good variety. Not the cheapest place but a good cause.

Off the beaten path as offered by TGS and Johnny's or even SSE?
Fatalii, Finnish chilehead extraordinaire, no one else like him (check out his greenhouses) http://juuri.org/growing/index.php This side of the pond: Beth Boyd, Pepper goddess and rogue http://www.peppermania.com/chile_seeds.html Terra Time and Tide http://members.aol.com/ltmdterra/TTTnewpe.html The Pepper Gal http://www.peppergal.com/ and the ubiquitous Redwood http://www.ecoseeds.com/ much more marginal, but interesting: Native seeds/SEARCH http://www.nativeseeds.org/v2/default.php And there are major trade centres too. Hope that helps. Buzz me if you want more or contacts. Jennifer |

Thanks Jerry and Jennifer. I am going to check several of those sites out. I googled...and found Reimer seeds, but they seem a little expensive $3-7 for 10 seeds!
Will keep looking around... Thanks again! Duane

I was ordering some other products from Native Seed/search this spring, and included a few packets of peppers...Arrived in 2 days, and the peppers germinated first from a flat with 20 or so other varieties...I wish I had ordered more of there peppers now...

Totally agreed.
I had heard last year they were trying to improve... or something, but it looks like it's gotten even worse. http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/1681/ |

I went to the Dave's Garden link out of curiousity, and after reading the comments went to their link to the Reimer site. Of course I started looking at tomatoes ... was bowled over to read that Big Zac (seeds for $5.00 for 10) "produces good yields of very large 6 lb size tomatoes."
http://www.reimerseeds.com/big-zac-tomato.aspx Holy cow! I can't even imagine the strength of vine needed to support a good yield of SIX pound tomatoes. |

I'm glad I mentioned that I was looking at Reimers...jeesh...terrible service, poor germination and high prices. Thanks for steering me away from them. I went with Peppermania, and have a few things from SSE too.
The Fatalii was a super website, just didn't want to wait for seeds from overseas. But yes, it is a very cool site and some interesting peppers! Duane

Although I have not purchased from them, The Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University has a hot pepper catalogue with some neat peppers. No comment on price, etc. I have heard they do good research on peppers.

I bought a few items (among them some Hinkelhatz Pepper seeds) from SSE. The service was quick. Everything intact. And cleared customs without incident.
And honestly, by comparison with many commercial seed houses, I don't find SSE to be pricey?? I learned a long time ago that sometimes you have to pay premium prices to get a quality product. |

I agree..I ordered a few items from SSE....50 seeds for 2.75 (usd)..I don't find that pricey at all. Not when Reimer was selling 10 seeds for $4-7!!

It's been a few years, but I had good luck with Reimers. It they're the only place with what you want, then you have to take a chance. :-) They have nice pictures!
