Mild ghost peppers?
So I ordered some Sweet Chocolate Ghost Peppers from Peppers By Mail that are supposed to be mild. In the past I've grow some "seasoning" peppers that were much hotter than expected.
Anyone grown these supposedly mild ghosts? Were they actually mild? I'll grow at least one, but if they really are going to be mild, I might put a few more in the ground. Are mild ghosts real? |

I've never heard of a Mild Ghost Pepper. Mild may mean 750,000 scoville units instead of 1 million+.

http://www.peppersbymail.com/product...-pepper-seeds/ Either way I've ordered the seeds, so I'll grow at least one seedling. But maybe just one in the garden, since I can only handle somewhere around Cayene at the most. Last edited by zendog; January 16, 2019 at 08:15 PM. Reason: fixed a typo |

I read it earlier today at work.
Sort of speechless, I guess you could compare it to lite whiskey, all the flavor less alcohol. Sort of a rip off if you ask me. Oh yes I have a bottle of ghost pepper sauce I keep in the truck. My co-worker keeps going to the truck and taking a shot. I gave him a quart and a pint of it so far. |

Just to follow up on this thread and answer my original question. The Sweet Chocolate Ghost peppers are coming in well now and they are quite hot. Definitely not mild! I've never tried super hots, but this pepper is the hottest thing I've got going, significantly hotter than the scarlet lanterns growing next to it. So no truth in advertising, but that is fine. I have several folks I can give these to that enjoy the really hot ones and I'm using them in some of the hot sauces I'm making, so no pods going to waste.

Even though the Sweet Chocolate Ghost turned out very hot, I'm growing a couple other not hot types. One is a really lovely yellow habanero type that came as a random seed from a pack that was supposed to be something else. It doesn't taste much like a habanero though. I'm going to keep some seeds and see if it is true, but I have no idea if it is just a random cross or a stray seed from the seed company.
I also have a large red "sweet scotch bonnet" that is okay, but very much of the habanero flavor. I wouldn't grow it on its own again for myself although my wife likes them, but I think it is useful to add to a hot sauce mix of peppers when I'm trying to keep the Chinenense flavor but don't want it as hot. |

I have 2 Ghost pepper plants from the same seed pack purchased last spring.
Plants are side by side and look identical. Fruit look identical. One plant's fruit have 0 heat. The other's are HOT. What gives? I planted my left over 4 plants from the 6-pack I started in another area, and none of the plant's fruit are hot at all. Weird to me. |
