My wife sent me some teasing pictures to my e-mail at work today
Yep Pics of the garden!
I can see what 3 weeks of growth can look like! She did not get any close ups but she says she has been picking ripe tomatoes off the vines. I will try to get her to take some pics of ripe timatoes.. She's such a tease 3 weeks ago Today 3 weeks ago Today the brandywines in the back are getting large and so the cherry is on the left. Another cherry that is not picky about location more toms in the background of thhe wood framed raised bed reaching the top of the fence. Finally my wifes pet roses and our back yard bird observatory. Notice the Tomatoe I snuck in the box near the Roses? I am dissapointed she did not take pictures of the sprawlers I have in the rear center of the yard in the imature perrenial bed. But at least I got some pictures of some of my Tomatoe plants today. |

Man are you ever in trouble, by the time we get through with you, you will be digging up the grass and growing more kinds of tomatoes.
I have 26 types so far (Not for sure on the count) and that is nothing compared to some of these guys and gals. Thats only because I let Suze talk me out of 50 this year. Oh well there is next year. Worth Last edited by Worth1; June 1, 2007 at 01:27 AM. Reason: just plain stupid |

I have already planned more.
Notice the area of grass that I am sort of neglecting in this general area? There is a eason I don't care about the grass there.

Once I get home I am going to do some layouts for differnt approaches. The current idea in my mind is possibly 2-3 4' x 16' raised beds(length will depend on actual space) Run parellel with drip irrigation installed. I would kill the bermuda weed mix and in the contained raised beds add a 6" thick mix of composts and garden soil. If I don't get the beds done in time for fall Tomatoes I will just grow corn or something that leaves alot of residue to cover the soil and plant some Daikon radishes and crimson clover through the winter to get the new beds ready for next spring where I will "bring it" .
BTW I am growing some seedlings in my window sill here at work to take home to plant for the fall crop! all the sunlight and my room fan and those little dixie paper cups from the bathrooms , LOL! I will use an empty SETA card box to carry the babies home. OK I gotta go to bed. |

The problem is it has to be propagated vegetatively.

I am certain the cherry's will still be going strong and I have some starts I am seeding for the fall run right now. If I am lucky maybe one of the longseason heirlooms such as the Brandwine has set a fruit or two. Unfortunately my wife has not taken any direct shots of the plants but I can seem them in the background and the plants are nice and big.
Worth gave me a Black Cherry he grew this spring I saved the seeds and I have some that I have pregerminated that I am about to get into some soil. By July 11th perhaps earlier the black Cherry seedlings will be in the ground. The large red Cherrys I am growing here at work will be coming home and in the ground by July 4th. My wife is begging for Roma's So I will plant a few for her. She likes them on her Pizza and to make chunky pasta sauce. If I grow her a few varieties she likes she tends to take care of the others as well while I am away at work. Her admiration of cherry types will be rewarded with more colorfull varieties as well as my being bloody butcher if I can get it in time for a fall crop. This is a fun and rewarding hobby/ocd crutch. |
