Are tomato stems supposed to have warts?
I got this a week ago from Laurel's Heirlooms. . .
It arrived very shriveled up and icky looking, but the info that came with it said it would from travel and just needed water and to sit for a few days. . . I've never done this before so of course I'm paranoid. And it really does look icky!! |

Thats the beginning of roots primordia please excuse the spelling. All tomato plants get this it is due to the Atom bomb testing back in the 40's.(not really)
Yes they do have these little knobs on them and they are called what I called them or something close. If that part of the vine touches the ground they will turn into roots. It is very common and natural for this to happen. This question is brought up every year so don't worry about feeling silly if you don't ask you don't know. Nothing to worry about. Worth |
