Default cowpots

I bought a case of these after the posting. They hold up real well, dont get soaked. Here is a photo of lime green salad that I germinated in a cowpot. 6 out of 6 germination with some bottom heat.

Michael, good stuff. Keep us in the loop as to how the pots perform as the seedlings grow. I'm especially interested in the penetration of the root mass through the pot as the seedlings mature. Also toying with the idea of soaking the pots in a solution of actinovate and mycorrizae prior to use.

Ami-I think that the ability of the roots to get through the cowpot is the crucial question-its why I dont like peat pots. I will post on this when it happens, or doesn't. I use a myco from groworganic.com-its the chappys brand. But I sprinkle in some myco when I transplant.

Here are the varieties today in the cowpots. The cowpots really stay together, and they dont get soaked with bottom watering. The manufacturer says that they will break down after 3 weeks in the ground-we shall see. They are very sturdy. Plus you can write the variety right on the cowpot.

Michael, thanks for the update. It looks like they hold moisture better than a normal pot as well or is that just wishful thinking. I have some comming thanks to a fellow Tvillian. Ami

Ami-They seem to hold moisture very well. My plants arent very big yet, so we will see when they get bigger and need more moisture. I will be interested in how they do for you.

Do they have an odor? I keep my seedlings in an east window in the living room, and my sweetie of 40years is very tolerant of my obsessions, but there is a limit.... LOL... 8)

Tuk-in my greenhouse there is a definite odor-not pungent, but its there. I would suggest not bringing them in the house-when mamas not happy, nobody's happy.

Going to Tucson in a week or so. Drive up for the day, there about 4-5 hours. Hope the weather is good.

So far this has been one of the prettiest winters in a few years, highs in the 60's lows in 30's.8)
