That's amazing! When I put tomatoes in pots three times that size I get plants and fruit one-third that size. Way to go.

is that what's happen, ami? are the roots through to the ground beneath? because i grow in pots bigger than that...but don't get a fraction of what you've got there.
nicely done!

Ami-whatever you are doing, you are doing it right. Curious what your fert regime is on these 2 gallon pots.

I dought that very many roots are going through as that is the exception rather than the norm. I think mdvpc picked up that I was using ferts as you can see how tall and green the grass is around the pots and the plant/fruit size as well. As the pots are small I already knew I would have to set up some kind of fertilizing regimen and this is what I came up with.
When I planted them out I used Actinovate and Mycorrhiza. During the growing phase I was using BioBizz "BioGrow" which is a 8-2-6 and applied 3 times a week. After about 8 weeks I switched over to Hesi "Bloom Complex for Soil" which is 4-3-5 and also have been applying 3 times a week. The weather has been on and off since the end of July over here so my plants have been growing in spurts. Now, need another warm spell so the fruit can finish ripening.
Basically it was an experiment that turned out pretty good so far but during sunny days I do have to water twice a day as the pots don't hold that much moisture due to their size. Ami

Ami-so you used only liquid ferts? and I assume you used them as a foliar feed, or did you use them as a soil drench, or both?

Michael, used the one's listed as a soil drench and did one or two applications of Spray-n-Grow and Bills Perfect Fertilizer and the same for Microbe Tea from T&J enterprises. Ami

Thanks for the info, Ami-and great job showing that you can grow good sized tomatoes in a small pot if you put enough effort into it.
