NW Louisiana Fall Garden Update
Photos #1 & #2) This is my first year growing lettuce: Of the three types I planted, the Gentilina seems to be the most robust. The Lolla Rossa Lettuce and "Aida" Chicory are coming on along. I'll post the pics when there's something to see...
Photo #3) I almost never plant in containers, but I ran out of space in the garden. This is Italian Parsley (potted) and some Catnip seeds I found at Lowe's. The latter has a nice minty, lemony flavor, but Kitty became bored with it after a week or so... Photo #4) The Greek Oregano is in its third year, and contrary to what I've read here, the flavor is still quite strong. However, I've pruned it way back several times, always after it goes to seed. The garlic is a true heirloom I found growing at an old homeplace deep in the hills of DeSoto Parish. The flavor is rather potent, but my Italian wife loves it. Photo #5) This rosemary is also 3 years old. Photos #6 & #7) This chili was sprouted indoors in February and transplanted to this spot in April. Baker Creek calls the seeds "Thai Red Chili," which could mean any of several varieties—Maybe someone here can help me out. The heat is somewhere between Tabasco and Habanero, and the flavor is wonderfully floral, that is, right before the capsaicin hits your tongue! |
