Just could not wait...

I was going through my pepper seed collection and I got overly excited today (probably smelled too much of the wonderful aroma of these trinidads and Scotch Bonnets...)...

... so I put a few pepper seeds into a wet paper towel, put them into a plastic container and into the oven where I was proofing dough...

... trying to convince myself that I was doing the right thing and not starting them too early

... they were baccatums and chinenses, so they need longer time...

Anyway, I've done it again - started seeds too early!!! :dizzy::oops:

On top of this, I went to a couple of pepper sites and put 2 orders for 23 additional varieties of peppers. Why? Not sure, as I already had enough in my seed collection for the next few years! Acting irrational again... :panic:

Does this ever happen to you? :)

Tania November 28, 2012 11:30 PM

Scott,

No tacos or chili at our house, it would be either 'adjika' nights or indian curry - my parent-in-law hate these as they find the food to be too hot for them :)

Wi-sunflower November 28, 2012 11:30 PM

all the time LOL

Tania November 28, 2012 11:31 PM

Carol, I knew you'd say that :)

May be I got the 'bug' from you???

Tania, I think you can blame it on the full moon:)

Aha, that makes sense, I have not thought about it!

I think more meditation would be appropriate.

Breathing in - "hot"
Breathing out - "peppers"
Repeat for 10 minutes. Then do the same with "heirloom tomatoes". You'd be amazed how it feels!

Sun City Linda November 29, 2012 01:26 AM

I never order seeds. I dont even know who Remy is, or Knapps Fresh Veggies, or Victory, SSE, Tania, Heritage..... nope. never ever.:o

Tania November 29, 2012 01:31 AM

Linda, sounds like you are still in denial...

I just went with the flow... ;) That's the next stage???

no... abundance! :P

Sun City Linda November 29, 2012 01:45 AM

Then you need to buy more seeds Tania! I have it on good authority that accute poverty is indeed the next stage:yes: Why I barely have enough money anymore to order seeds once a week!8-)

Tania November 29, 2012 01:48 AM

well, it is only a seasonal hardship... will last only until summer time... :)

Sun City Linda November 29, 2012 01:58 AM

Excellent point! Not to worry.:cute:

BTW it was Deltraveler who sent me a few Yamal seeds. I went out and checked that plant yestarday. There are 12 greenies on it, some pretty good size! The plant itself can't be more than two feet and it is coming back from near death.

Hmmm Tania you tell me to be careful ordering seeds cause its addicting and here you go ordering pepper seeds hmmmm see now you will have me looking at your site for peppers... LOL
and by the way I now have 230 different tomato seeds and 30 peppers seeds..

guess I need to collect more peppers LOL

Tania November 29, 2012 11:30 AM

D., I think is it a common knowledge that I suffer from a chronic seed addiction. It gets a bit better in summer months, and winters usually aggravate the disease. They still cannot find any reliable drug to help me. Stan (my DH) has this special look every time I tell him I got more seeds, but he does not try to reason with me anymore.

At this time a year our house is full of seeds - drying, some still fermenting, some are soaked for testing. 3 rooms are a full mess, with seeds everywhere. Yesterday I got all my seeds from the cold storage (to clean the fridge), and going through these boxes I got the crazy idea that I needed more pepper seeds asap.

Now, waking up in the morning with fresh head, I think this was not a bad idea, but maybe I need more! :)

frdlturner November 29, 2012 01:11 PM

LOL my son just shakes his head now when he gets the mail....
hmmm Tania you gave me a idea need to get a small refrigiator to keep seeds in...
Now you need a database on peppers so I can buy some...
untill then any good reliable pepper places to buy from....

Just make sure the pepper site is "sad" and "boring"

Tania November 29, 2012 01:24 PM

I have a very decent sweet pepper collection at TOMATObase, but I sure lack personal experience with hot peppers, which I started to enjoy in the last years (in my food). Cayenne peppers are also awesome for your health (heart and blood vessels).

Anyway, I usually buy my pepper seeds from Tomato Growers Supply, but this time I decided to check out Peppermania and Pepper Gal.

Linda, that's would be a 'MUST HAVE' :), as I am a very boring person myself, so it'll be only natural!

frdlturner November 29, 2012 01:35 PM

Dang it LOL ... ok back to Tania's to check out pepper's... Twisted my arm again ... LOL guess I enjoy pain...

This morning I was eating beans with salsa for breakfast. I put a little too much of the homemade salsa on it. It was killing me! That stuff is so hot! It's fermented jalapeños, anaheims and chiltepans. The peppers are really hot because I barely water them in the heat of the AZ summer. After fermentation, we add tomatoes, cilantro, onions, and more peppers!

I never fermented peppers before but I am told that is the secret behind Tabasco sauce. Fermented in Jack Daniels kegs supposedly.

They are really delicious this way. We add salt and ferment for about 6 weeks. Then add salsa ingredients. The fresh salsa ingredients really last, instead of going bad in a couple of days.
We also add a bit of organic apple cider vinegar to taste after the fermentation process is done. Basically, we do a similar process to making saurkraut or pickles.

Tania December 2, 2012 01:05 AM

sounds really delicious!

Hotwired December 2, 2012 08:38 AM

Every year I seem to start 2 weeks earlier. Last year I started right after New Years and we have a last Frost date of May 9th. The problem I have is that the plants get so big that they overflow my 12'x16' greenhouse and I had to move some to a temporary hoophouse http://imageshack.us/a/img847/7693/004sm.jpg . An early start on peppers works great, but it's no fun having your tomato plants start dying off in late August. I'm going to try my best to wait until the end of January this year - yeah right.

Tania December 2, 2012 01:15 PM

awesome picture! That's how large I prefer mine before I set them out :)

ScottinAtlanta December 2, 2012 02:04 PM

There are two things I never regret spending good money on: books and seeds. And seeds require less room on the shelf.
