A few from this week - Mocha and Buddy enjoying the sultry Raleigh days on the back deck. Pining away for Sue, who was in Florida helping out her Aunt (who just lost her husband, to Alzheimers, and son, to liver cancer, within a few weeks...so sad).

Zana August 24, 2007 11:58 AM

Craig,
Mocha and Buddy remind me of our old chocolate labs. Are they chocolate labs too? They're definitely looking relaxed, and sad. I swear labs have the saddest eyes.

Ours were named Chocolate Soldier(Chocolate), Chocolate Mousse(Mousse), Chocolate Toblerone (Toby), Chocolate Boadecia Satenig (BS - was going to call her "Boa" but once I saw the initials she was BS forever afterwards) and Chocolate Dreadly (Dread or Dreadly - my bro was sound engineer for a reggae band when he got the puppy.) I'll see if I can find some of their pics. Now we have a black lab and a westie....guess who is the alpha? LOL

Biddy, the Westie, of course.

Now you asked for it. Takin pictures of my "children" is my favorite subject. We just recently had a liter of Corgi puppies too. The full grown dog is a brother to the puppies named Bullwinkle. I'll dig up the rest of the family.

nctomatoman August 26, 2007 09:29 PM

Keep 'em coming! Great specimens, one and all! Yes, Zana - they are chocolate labs. Buddy (brown eyes) is 4 and a rescue dog...Mocha (green eyes) is 3 and we lucked out - freebie from someone who shouldn't have gotten a little puppy! Pays to read the classifieds now and then - you can get lucky!

caascher2 August 26, 2007 10:10 PM

Babylark..your Corgis are the cutest little furballs! I bet they keep things busy at your house!

babylark August 26, 2007 10:23 PM

They did. I was very surprised when I was able to sell all of them in 2 days! My house became very quiet very quickly. It was kind of sad! :( I miss the puppies, but they are a lot of work. I was VERY tempted to keep one, but since they all sold quicly I didn't really have the chance. Which is good with 4 other dogs in the house and a cat. Plus, I have horses. Plenty to keep up with :dizzy:

I love the nativity cat, and the Pricess bed! I should have one of those for me, since the dogs take over our bed!

Jasmine likes finding novel places to sleep, even if she has to support herself on her back legs to do it?! In this pic she is in the corner of the couch peering over the arm section. I had tossed my cardigan on the top of the couch, and where it hung down she snuggled up against it

We adopted an "experienced" Standard Poodle right after July 4th. Pics include Moab...the pretty apricot colored furry thing who is 8 months old in this pic, our daughter Abigail aged 12 months in this pic and Obispo45's(that be me...Erik. Never had referred to myself in my 3rd Person Internet Handle/Alias previously LMAO:mrgreen:) mom AKA Grandma. We were giving Moab a trial run before we adopted him a couple days after these pics were taken. Big for a Standard, he's a solid, athletic good mannered 85lbs now!! Darn good swimmer and naturally obedient in the retrieval dept...Mrs.Obi45 will be temporarily horrified but think I may have to get my waterfowl decoys and firearms out of the bowels of the basement:shock::D.

The Mrs. and I often keep seperate cameras. I'm busy with fotos of things....things like plants, guy reeling in a fish while still drinking a beer, geological features of interest etc. Don't even remember taking these pics. Her...babies, dogs, weddings, more babies, and a neighbor posing with a baby and dog, you get the picture...LOL!! SO that said she has the most up to date fotos. I'll get cracking and try to get some new ones.

Zana August 27, 2007 09:43 PM

Abigail is a cutey....and so is Moab. But how do you manage to keep a french manicure and work in the garden?????

obispo45 August 27, 2007 11:37 PM

I have a question...what is a French manicure? Heard my wife mention that once. I have no clue. Some chevre cheese and Cabernet Franc messing w/ one's cuticles?? Just kidding, my folks are more or less retired and are busy mooching off me these days:mrgreen:. Its the least I could do I guess after totalling a few cars in my formative years, having a party or four while they were on "holiday" that they learned about via the Police column, might have even caused them a sleepless night here and there; won't even go into the "Best Years of My Life"...those seven glorious years in college, and NO I aint's no doctor BTW...LOL!!!

Just giving the folks a hard time. My mom is big into perennials and something I would consider along the lines of native prairie restoration....WAIT that's what I do for them, plus all the yummy veggies!! I'm getting hosed here:D. Next thing they're going to want is another grandchild:dizzy::shock:!!

Here's Bear. He has hair like one of the muppets on Sesame St. He is my sister's dog but 1/2 share should belong to me, maybe the back half, since I do the majority of the poop scooping. He is pretty worthless but very lovable. I try to train him not to bark at anything that moves by using the garden hose and now all I have to do is to wave it around and he quits barking and hides. He does stay very warm up here in the winter.

My god, that is one ugly dog. :)

remy August 28, 2007 10:53 PM

I love seeing all the pet pics. Here's mine.
This is Creton. I often call him Big Boy. He is a Black Lab and English Springer Spaniel mix. He is a big dumb dog.

This is Sammie. She is a Greyhound Golden Retriever mix. She was skin and bones when we got her from the SPCA. The previous owners were starving her. I don't know why someone would do that to her. She is a great dog. I often call call her Girly Girl or My Sweetness. I wish I had a better pic.

tomatoaddict August 29, 2007 12:22 AM

Sue, what kind of dog is that????? I've never seen one like that.
Remy, your dogs are adorable. I am a big advocate in rescuing dogs. Why anyone would want to mistreat an animal is beyond my understanding.

akgardengirl August 29, 2007 10:16 AM

Remy,
What is the gray thing on Sammie's collar? Bear is a Keeshond.
I think that is the correct spelling. His breed is totally overbred meaning no brains to me. I can't think of anything that he is good for. When I get a dog of my own, I will be getting a rescue pet. I have a friend who is involved with Friends of Pets and she will find the appropriate match.
Sue

remy August 29, 2007 08:08 PM

Thanks Terry. I too can't comprehend why a person would starve dog. I found this old pic of her. She actually looked worse than in the photo. The crazy thing is, they had to feed her to get her weight up a few pounds before she could be adopted!

Sue,
That's great that you want a rescued dog when you get your own. Sammie has the weird collar as part of having an invisible fence. She can clear our 4 foot fence with no problem. We had to put her on a lead to keep her from escaping. She wasn't trying to run away, she just loves to go after rabbits and squirrels. I hated having her on a lead, so we got the invisible fence and she is much happier.

Shame on you guys; You all claim to love your pets!

Leona Helmsley who just passed away, left her dog $12,000,000.00

What have you done for yours?

I would leave everything to my pets if I could...

but isn't leaving debt to animals illegal?

My avatar shows my pack. The big black one is a 12 year old flat coated retriever who is just getting over her puppy phase. The one in the middle is a 6yo mutt we got from a shelter. He seems to have an old soul, but he really perks up when I give him cherry tomatoes. The littlest one is about 9 mos now. She was about 3 mos in the picture. She's a pure bred street urchin that my hubby picked up from the street during the middle of the winter.

BTW, Bear looks amazing, but he must really clog up the vacuum.
