Plectranthus amboinicus anyone?
Hello!
I am getting married next month, and thought it might be fun to have an "herb shower". Weve moved several times in the last few years, and Ive got seeds, but the only plant I had kept were chives from my dads, and we bought 2 mints, our sage didnt overwinter.... so, an aunt gets this awesome "broadleaf thyme"- but its a succulent. its labeled plectranthus amboinicus- seems to go by Indian Boragae, Cuban Oregano, Spanish Thyme.... Is this also what goes by "Mexican Oregano?" Do you have any recipes? it certainly smells good, was thinking chicken.... I don't have any recipes. I do have several thymes growing here, but no broadleaf ones.
But I wanted to say Congrats on the upcoming wedding :) And if you need any plants to get going in your new home, come to the country and see me. |

Barbee- thanks for the congrats! hope to see you at the CHOPTAG tasting, not ready for the plant swap!
Thanks Polar Lace, I had looked them up a while ago, and just got more confused- Some people do call the plectranthus Mexican oregano as well. my Mom had a jar of the Mexican Oregano from Penzeys I think, and im pretty sure its the lippia plant you linked to. My fiance had a Cuban Oregano that looked a lot like the plectranthus, but it had smaller, spoon shaped leaves. As far as I can tell, it is the same thing, and I have found enough references to eating it, that Ill give it a try! |
