First one of the Year!
Here it is
 I know one Sungold won't go far. Especially when my Gary threatened me not to eat it. So we'll be slicing it in half. Remy |
It may be bitter or tasteless...probably better that you eat the whole thing than to give Gary a bum piece;-) Please clarify...is that "first one of the year" that you didn't eat out in the garden while hunched over pretending to be weeding?
|
 I'll try that logic with Gary and see how it goes. It really is the first ripe tomato of any sort. I know I shouldn't of told him, but I got so excited when I saw it, I lost my mind!
Remy |
Gary just walked in here with the tomato cut in half. I enjoyed my measly half. Gary said,"That's a good tomato. Now we only need like 400 more of them." I guess he liked it.
|
Heh, heh. My Sweet 100 has two. I'm going to pick them tomorrow and enjoy them with my wife. No slicing for me!
|
My first sungold came in this week too! I was lucky that the rest of the family was away at camp, so I did not have to slice it and split 3 ways. :-)
|
It only gets better from here, congrats on that first sungold.

Gotta love those Sungolds-held me over for the 13 days it took for Mrs. Benson, Cherokee Purple, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye and Orange King to make it to the table. :D
|
Duck,
 Lucky you. Impatient, :lol:I can see a whacky tomato loving family trying to cut a Sungold in thirds. Paul, I sure hope so! Kath, I'm glad they'll tide me over too, but except for some other cherries I think I have more than a 13 day wait. I think Cherokee Purple or Sophie's Choice will be the first larger sized one I harvest. Remy |
I got my first one today! I'm so glad or I would have driven over there and staked out your Sungold! The anticipation was killing me! Champagne Cherry served up 4 tiny fruit today, I was nice and shared it with my husband too. Peacevine should have one or two ready tomorrow. Yay! Tomato season has arrived!

Remy
Remy, you might be surprised if you had all the heat lately-mine seemed to turn overnight! Never had Sophie's Choice, but the CP is worth the wait. |
LJ,
 I have this image of you showing up and us rolling around fighting over the cherry tomatoes. So glad you got a few ripe ones and no slicing involved too. Kath, It has been hot here! I grow Sophie's Choice on a regular rotation. It is very good for an early, not acidic tasting like many early varieties. I'm looking forward to Cherokee Purple. I loved Cherokee Green last year so I'm sure I'm going to love it too. Remy |

Remy
Sophie's Choice may be one for me to try, then, as I've settled on Sungold for my early variety due to the acidity in the earlies I've tried so far. Trying Cherokee Green for the 1st time this year-it was a late plant out so it'll be a while before I get to taste it. Hope you like Cherokee Purple. |

I like this....so much so I think I shall do it lol |
Congrats on your initial harvest! Although Brandywine is the first to blush, I think Cherokee Purple is gonna blush in the next few days too. Yum, yummeh.
