Today's Harvest

Despite some very poor weather I did manage to get a decent crop. The huge red tomato in the middle is a two and a half pound Sicilian Saucer, its closest rival for size was 1884 at just over a pound and a half.

Do you fertilize? if so, how and what? Really nice harvest. More to come? dcarch;) |
DC,
Thanks. Yes I do fertilize with organic fertilizer. In the fall I prep the beds with fall rye and legumes. When I turn the soil early in the year I might add some compost, manure and alfalfa meal, which I let break down for two to three weeks before I till and plant the seedlings. During the course of the growing season I feed with fish fertilizer and apply sea kelp as a foliar spray. Normally, I'll stop feeding late July. Approximately half of my harvest is still on the vines. About 15% was lost to blight. Alex |
