Next year, I will grow them side by side with RB. Anyone done that?
****
For sure.
Let me backtrack a bit.
Burpee first introduced the variety as Red Brandywine Hybrid and I bought both plants and seeds for same.
That summer I grew out the RBHybrid from seed and the plants of same I'd purchased and my own Red Brandywine OP which I'd had for quite a few years.
I saw absolutely no difference at all.
Fast Forward a few years and Burpee changed the name to Buck's County Red but didn't indicate that it was the same as Red Brandywine Hybrid. After a couple of years they started adding that fact to the blurb, and I guess that info is still there.
I had initially saved the seeds from RBHybrid, aka Buck's County Red, and was going to grow out some F2's to see if I saw any genetic segregation since I had seen no difference between the hybrid and OP versions.
To this day I don't know what I did with those seeds and so I don't know what one would get from saved F2 seeds of Buck's County Red, aka Red Brandywine Hybrid.
