Of the several dwarfs from the project I grew the method was to grow each variety in a 5 gallon bucket and in ground with all the other tomatoes. The buckets produced about half the in ground grown and the average size was maybe 60%.

Not a definitave experiment but an indicator that the larger the container the better. And that in ground is even better. As for flavor difference there was nothing that jumped out in the years of being part of the dwarf project one way or the other.
