Mischka, I think you'll recognize this link to a thread about Moreton Hybrid F1 which started in 2007 and ended up last Fall with the announcement that it was once again available.

Those who like those earliest Harris hybrids of Moreton, Supersonic and Jet Star, as I do, were bemoaning the fact that Moreton was discontinued, as posted in the beginning of the thread and then happy at the end.

Makes for some good nostalgic reading.

Boy does this take me back! We used to get plants, actually, of Moreton - as I recall, Harris was our local serious garden place for vegetable seeds and plants, and I don't think Mum ever started them from seed. (I grew up in Wayne Co, NY.)

At another site folks did some comparisons on whether it was cheaper to order seeds directly from Rutgers or from Harris and think the result was that since there are many other veggie and fruit and roses, and shrubs ,etc, at Harris there was the opportunity to keep shipping costs low.

I was so glad when I saw that it was the cooperation with Rutgers that allowed Harris to list the seeds again.

I grew up on a farm where the "Harris man" came to the house every winter and would sit down with my dad and discuss his seed needs for the summer. Reps from other companies also came to the house as well, but I liked the Harris man best, as a kid sitting quietly in a chair as they talked, and actually my father did as well.

That was then, this is now.

I received my package of MORETON F1 seeds earlier this week from Rutgers. Can't wait to grow them this year.

Glad I put my order in early. Hopefully they replenish their supply before the start of the growing season. 1k seeds for 16 dollars seemed very reasonable and I bet a lot of folks jumped on that offer.

I wrote to Rutger's last Wednesday to ask about a bulk seed purchase but haven't heard back from them yet.

If I can get a good deal, I'll post an offer here to share some seeds.

I guess I should have ordered them right away. Now where did I put the telephone number of my friend at Rutgers???? After all this time I'd hate to get shut out.

Does anyone know if they still have seeds? Is there a number to call, I couldn't find one on the order form.

I emailed Harris and they are out for this year. I haven't contacted Rutgers as yet. I can't find the phone number of my contact at Rutgers. Perhaps someone else knows???

Hi all,
I began this thread because I received an email announcement from Rutgers on Friday, 13 Feb 2009, touting the availability of Moreton seeds. I believe that if things had changed, there would be some notice on the Rutgers web page. Why not go ahead and order; worst case, you'll be way ahead for next season.
