Introducing "Big Sungold Select"

Not to be confused with "Big Sungold" from Reinhard Kraft which was introduced in 2006, this is Reinhard's "Select" version of Big Sungold hence the name. Size of fruit seems to be variable as you can see in my pictures to include a mini heart. Taste, yes and I liked it better than Sungold Select ll that I grew last year. To me it's more of a sweet, fruity taste and not overpowering in the sweet department as are Sungold or Sunsugar.
1st picture is the first four BSS from my plant with a Kiwi and a Sunsugar at the bottom for size comparison.
2nd picture are the two larger BSS next to the Kiwi.

Ami is this a different hybrid from Sun Gold or is this in fact a selection from Sun Gold resulting in a OP? Whats the story here?

If I may Ami, b'c I'm also growing Big Sungold Select, but no fruits yet.

This is not a hybrid.

Reinhard Kraft has worked very hard for several years at trying to select for something that's OP and has the taste of Sungold F1 and its other good traits.

I probably don't have these in order, but he released the following as OP's:

Sungold Select
Sungold Select II
Big Sungold
Big Sungold Select

I've grown the first two, missed one, and am now growing the 4th one as is Ami and I'm sure some other folks as well.

If it's variable in shape and size Ami, I have to wonder if he released it perhaps too early but I'm still hoping I get some fruits to experience and if I do I'll be sure to post back in this thread that you've started and state what I got.

The big thing about Sungold Select - how does it taste? Is it similar to the original Sungold hybrid? I ask because the original is my favorite cherry tomato in the universe (that,and Black Cherry).

The best way I can describe the taste is take a little of the sweetness away and add a little more tomato flavor for the Sungold Select ll. To me the BSS had a little more fruity tone to it than the Sungold Select ll. Ami

Reinhard Kraft in Germany had sent seeds of BS select to both Brand Gates in Ca and myself.

Somewhere here at TV Brad described the different colored fruits he got and when I offered it in my seed offer the same thing happened.

Since nothing has been stabilized as far as I know, I can't see any sense in saving seeds since BS select was supposed to be a larger fruited version of BigSungold,which is stable.

And there were more colors than just orange and red that showed up as well.

So,other than the seeds being xed, well,it's a personal decision if someone wants to make selections, etc.

it's good to remember,from the post I did in the beginning of this thread that the BSselect seeds were from Manfred and given to Reinhard,nothing that Reinhard himself bred and stabilized.

Here's a pic of my big sun gold selects from this year. They are setting like crazy on my plants. I got my seeds from Mariannas seeds and are said to be open pollinated. They do give credit to you also Carolyn for the original seeds via Reinhard Craft.
