And now, my Paul Robeson isn't a Paul Robeson
I am so annoyed. I ordered 10 plants from Laurel's Heirloom Tomatoes. Out of the 10, I've gotten a Zogola that wasn't a Zogola (it was a heart shaped red tomato without a lot of taste, but it does keep forever.). I've also gotten a Berkeley Tie Dyed that wasn't a BTD - it was a pink beefsteak. At least that one was yummy. Now, I've got a Paul Robeson that is a yellow/red beefsteak. So, 30% of the plants I received were just wrong.
These weren't tag mix ups on my part - the other plants are correct. I shrugged off the Zogola and the BTD, because I had 2 other plants that were correct. But the Paul Robeson, I only had one, and it was a big reason why I ordered from her in the first place. In contrast, all of the plants I got locally off craigslist were correct. And I paid a lot less for them. |

Uh-oh! Maybe you should plan to start your own next year. Not that seeds can't get mixed up too, but at least you'll pay less! Sorry this happened to you. I know it's disappointing.

Next year, I'll definately start from seed. This year I was in a small two bedroom apartment with 3 cats. This year, I have a house with a mini greenhouse and a good light setup for starting seedlings. The previous owners had a garden, and since it was an estate, they left it all.
I was really excited to try a paul robeson though. Oh well, there is next year. |

I suppose I could, but I'm not sure how she could make it right. And, I don't plan on ordering from her again anyways.
Here's a pick that has the imposter Paul Robesons in the back. Imposter Paul Robesons by knittergail, on Flickr |

I thought Paul Robeson was dark red/purple, like this link:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/129410/ The fruit I'm getting are bright red, once fully ripe. Like, a grocery store tomato with the orange undertone. The picture shows them a few days from full ripe. |

Hrm. I was growing mine in a pot as well. Mine did have a star pattern on the bottom, but I can't remember if it stayed there after it ripened.

Mine tasted fine to me - more tomatoey than sweet. They ended up in a big tomato bread salad with a bunch of other tomatoes - they were meaty and held up well.

I just tried the bright red ones from the pot, really nice, i wonder if the pot ones are PR after all, so nice to eat, smooth like wine.

I don't think there's any way its a Paul Robeson. But, I have to say my Imposter, whatever it is, makes the prettiest tomatoes. I'd be tempted to save seed, but my plants are way too close together, so I'm sure I have cross pollination.
