Help with seed starting in flats?

I have been offered a lot of the trays that the six pack seed starts are put into to water. The only thing I can think of off hand to start in them would be onions. Any ideals of what else could be started in them (he would like me to pick them up today). Appreciate your help on this. Wondering they can be used to dense seed starting of tomatoes also. I don't want to use the six pack's in them just fill with soil less mix and plant in the tray then transplant kinda like in nctomatoman's post on dense planting.

You could use them for early lettuce transplants, or some ornamental flower seeds. I wish I could remember to start more flower seed, because it really gets expensive to buy all the 6 and 4 packs I need to fill up my flower bed borders and various hanging planters. You could use them for tomato seed, but if they are the kind without drainage, you'd need to punch holes in the bottom or run the risk of drowning your seedlings. I'd go get 'em all, if I were you. You can always think of more uses for them later.

ddsack thanks for the help. After posting this I went over to see the flats and had many other different sizes and shapes for holding different sizes of pots and came to the conclusion you said - get them find a use for them. Now to find things to fit in those to put plants in.
