Non-Red Early

It seems that most early tomatoes are small and red. Anything you have grown that is different?

Red Siberian is actually a pink and is supposed to be early.

That being said, I am growing it this year and I don't see signs that it will be particularly early. But I think most other people's experience is that it is early.

Native Sun is a decent sized yellow on a compact determinant plant. Tatiana's lists it as midseason, but it was listed as 50-55 days for me and ripened a few days after Stupice.

Yes, Native Sun and Morden Yellow are both early.

ANother vote for Native Sun....it will grow dependably even as far north as me.

Sungold F1 (small, but orange) is always my best tasting early, although I don't grow it because it's early. That's just a bonus.

Others I can think of that aren't small *and* red include-

Moskvich - med sized red, very good flavor, usually 60 DTM right on the nose for me in TX.

506 Dwarf Bush Early - good flavor, extreme production of flattened tennis ball sized (sometimes slightly smaller) red fruits on very compact/det plants (2 - 2.5 ft or so). Usually 60-65 DTM or so for me.

Mozark x Sioux F2 - new-to-me this year - cross from Bill J in IN, who was nice enough to send me some seeds to trial. Very good flavor, high production of fairly uniform med red globes on very compact/det plants (2 ft or so). This is a really good one for what it is. Around 62-65 DTM for me, I think. Fruits also keep well for a long time on the counter.

Azoychka - it's been a few years since I last grew Azoychka, and while I don't recall an exact DTM range in my garden, think it's firmly early-mid season. Med to med-lg yellow fruits with surprisingly good flavor for how early it is + the size. Does well in a 7 gal container, too - even though it's definitely indet.

Gruntovyi Gribovskiy 1180 - just 5-6 days later for me this year than Sungold or Bloody Butcher, high production of med red fruits. Very nice flavor - I got seed for this from Tatiana/tomatobase. Did well in a 7 gal container as a greenhouse plant.

Blush - was another one that stood out as a new-to-me early-mid this year. One of the best for flavor until the larger fruited vars got going. Very sweet, but not bland - fruity.

Thanks for all the input. I will probably add Native Sun to grow list for next season. I usually enjoy yellows. How about dark or green fruited?

Well, about the best tasting early-mid dark (neither are early for me even in TX) IMO, are either Black Cherry or Purple Haze F1 (and a selection of PH I've been working with that is almost identical to the F1). Not a big fan of Black Sea Man, although some seem to like it. BSM can be early to early-mid for many, I guess. Can't think of any true early darks, at least ones I've personally tried or liked.

For early-mid greens that actually taste very good or at least decent probably either Green Doctors (a cherry) or perhaps the Not Absinthe saladette I got this year that was likely due to some accidental cross.

Or Lime Green Salad, perhaps. That one can be very/firmly early, if memory serves.

Kosovo- 61 days
Cherokee Purple- 63 days
Berkeley Tie Dye Pink- 61 days
Black Krim- 64 days
Brandy Boy- 64 days
Dana's Dusky Rose- 60 days
Gary O' Sena- 66 days
Indian Stripe- 63 days

Wow, red - those are some fairly early dtms for the varieties you've listed.

Warm/stable spring, I'm guessing?

No problem on the red. I have never grown any earlies besides cherry tomatoes and am planning on picking a few for next year. I had not heard of Harnas anyway so I continue learning.
