ct, ma, ri, ny are your tomatoes late?

things here are late.

i have picked 10 or 12 sun golds over the past 7 or 8 days.

i had 1 nice sized cherokee purple until i picked it a week ago and found the bottom all rotted.

i see 2 or 3 wes starting to color up this morning and 2 or 3 cherokee purple also changing.

nothing else is at the breaker stage. looks like those at the breaker state may be ready in a week and that's at least 10 days later than the past few years. normally by 7/28 i've been eating my fill of tomatoes.

are you running behind?

Same in Kentucky. I have had three ripe bush Goliath tomatoes and that is it.

Olive Hill and Goose Creek have huge green tomatoes 1lb + but no signs of ripening yet.

My jetstar, Big Boy, Better Boy, German Johnson, Beefsteak, STOW, Fred's Potato Leaf, KBX and DWS are all loaded up with small greenies and are growing.

Just hoping that the cold weather stays at bay till Nov like last year.

Its a tomato drought currently kinda scared they are all going to come in all at once.

Yes I am in MA and about 10 days behind in tomatoes and peppers. I started indoors earlier this year. They were great until we had those weeks of rain non-stop and no sun.

I've only had ripe Sunsugars, Micro Toms, and Tumbling Toms. I expected to be a little behind since I didn't get anything planted until the first week of June.

North of the border here - almost like Remy I didn't get anything planted until the 2nd week of June, so am running behind here. In the past two days, pepper have started ripening and the zucchinis, but only a few of the tomatoes are starting to blush....and those I can't even identify since the original tag said "Roma" and they're obviously beefsteaks of some kind. (I couldn't resist almost 3' high plants for $6 a piece. Bought 3 and only one seems to be producing roma shaped tomatoes.) Although I've got fruit on other varieties - Black Cherry, Cherokee Purple, Lemon Boy, Yellow Pear, Italian Red Pear, Red Pear - none are blushing....sighhhhhhh. Oh well at least the Lettuce and herbs are going gangbusters in the heat. Sighhhhhhh.

Late here in Ma the June dark days and rain, my plants were in the ground May 24th just waiting.My problem now is so funny, I am goig to get shots of some plants which are only 24 inch high with 6 fruits. It is a Carbon plant. It is now not growing up with this big fruits.

Exactly...a week of mist and temps in the upper 40's and low 50's to stifle growth right out the gate...now plants (smaller than normal for this time of year, excepting one 'volunteer' black cherry 7 feet tall) are LOADED with blossoms and tiny green 'maters. Natch, NOW we get temps in the upper 90's to stifle fruit set.

Sigh.

I got started extremely late, but it still seems like this weather has them confused. Wet and then desert, then wet, then desert. I've got a lot of greenies, probably everything will come at once.

I am happy to report my first ripe tomato of the season: Bloody Butcher

I've picked 2 Bloody Butchers, 1 Siberian and about 2 dozen Sungolds. Not much for 83 tomato plants. I have a few nice big Granny's Hearts that I am hoping will start turning soon. My plants are between 5' and 8' tall but fruit set has not been good on many of the plants. I have 2 Hoy that are over 7' tall and huge with a grand total of 3 fruits set between the 2 of them.They have a lot of flowers near the top now and I am hoping for some more fruit set.
I have never had healthier tomato plants ("knock on wood"), but I am just a little disappointed with the number of fruit set at this time.

fruit set here has been very good and plant growth is fine except for cherokee purple which is turning out to be a major problem. i have tons of green fruits few are breakers. picked a wes and cp 2 days ago but they need time to ripen. should have picked the other 2 cp as they've been ruined by sun scald and doubtless are useless. it's been extremely dry here. since june 23 it has rained just 2 times and 1/4" at that each time. i actually have watered my tomatoes 2 times in the past week and will again tomorrow and i seldom ever water tomatoes. all this week 92 to 100+ (officially 103 yesterday breaking an all time high temperature ever recorded in ct) with heat index into the 105 to 112 range. guess i shouldn't complain newark nj hit 112 actual temperature yesterday! this is brutal heat, at least late blight isn't an issue what with no water and high heat!

I have had the same issues here myself. I am hoping that the plants will get a second wind for a late harvest this season.
