Black Prince Taste Test
I am new to Tomatoville and really anxious to learn how to navigate through this great forum. I planted some tomatoes called Black Prince. When the first 3 ripened I picked, ate, and they were off the charts good. Since, none of the tomatoes have tasted worth the darn. Does anybody know why? And how can I upload a pic from an iphone? Thank You for the help!

I can't help with the iphone upload, since I don't have one. But it is kind of unusual for the later tomatoes to taste worse than the first, usually it's the other way around with early season tomatoes sometimes not quite having the full flavor.
Is it possible that you started babying them and watered them more often when you realized how good the first ones were? Too much water will dilute the taste. Or has the weather changed and become cooler in the last few weeks? Hope someone else can add some other causes.

Thanks Dee! I live in California and the weather has been a little bit of a roller coaster. We had a cool start then got really hot and then cool again, it even sprinkled a bit today kinda bizarre for this time of year. It is possible they are being over watered as they are planted with my aces, celebrity, green zebra cherries and a couple other variety's. I think next year I will make a separate plot for the black princes because they taste really good when they turn out like they should. Thanks for the input you were very helpful!

I ate my first BP tomato today and it was a bit of a let down. I was under the impression that black tomatoes were tastier than that...? The one I ate was extremely mild, almost bland I would say. Maybe the later BP tomatoes will be more flavorful. Anyone else had bad experience with the Black Prince?
By the way, I'm new on these boards! I live in Quebec (Canada) and my hardiness zone is 4b |
