I'm looking for Rabbit Manure

I'm an avid tomato gardener now for 38 years here in south Florida. I always used chicken manure mixed with mushroom compost. Does very well here in south FL with your high humidity sometimes in our fall and winter months. 2011/2012 was a bumper crop for tomatoes. I was reading that rabbit manure might be better than chicken manure...does anyone have rabbit manure I can try? I would pay for shipping and handling. Thanks in advance.

How far south are you? There is a place in Lakeland which advertisers rabbit manure for sale on CraigsList. Says $3 per 50lb bag. Also a place here in Orlando, which is apparently much higher $12 for a "50 pound Rabbit food bags and filled 80%" - not sure what the actual weight/volume is.

I see nothing listed in South FL Craigslist.

There's also a ManureDepot.com, which seems to sell worm castings and pony manure in Fort Pierce. No bunny poo listed, but the site may have become out of date.

Did you compost the chicken manure or just use it as-is?

I buy the chicken manure from local nursery...its all ready dried and composted. I've used it for years and was reading that rabbit manure might be better. Thanks for the links and information.

rabbit manure can be put straight in the garden does not burn....got 14 rabbits ... their the breeders raised them for food and the manure is a good by product

I have 3 rabbits (freebie bucks from a litter) just for the manure. That was the only reason I took them. easy keepers they are. I just clean the litter pan every couple weeks and put it in the garden, the greenhouse or in containers that are for veg. growing next year.

I've gotten rabbit poop on freecycle and from someone I knew who was taking care of a friend's rabbits. If you have freecycle in your area, you can ask. Since I didn't know the people directly, I put it in the compost bin instead of directly into the garden. It came with lots of bedding (straw) and was already partly composted.

Pretty funny post! Seems all my friends have gotten on a sort of bunny craze lately. (Last year it was chickens and quail.) I keep seeing bunny picture updates on my FB page and a variety of info I'd thought I'd never need. So, here's my recommendation. Call the local extension office and ask if there is a 4H club that raises and shows rabbits, they might be able to give you the name/number of the person in charge who could connect you with the various members. Also, there is a national rabbit club that do shows all over, like the AKC. And, finally, if your local feed store has a bulletin board, check that or post on it. (Fyi, worms in worm bins LOVE rabbit poop, too. LOL)

Yeah!! I found a person 14 miles south of me with lots of floppy ear bunnies..he gave me a 5 gallon bucket of composted "bunny beans". He will email me when the bunnies fill up the bucket again.. Thanks for ALL the help and links...much appreciated!!
