Default Stupid Deer.

I planted a bigger assortment of tomatoes this year to see which I liked best, gave away what I didn't sell and left myself with 3-5 of each variety. Out of the 50+ plants this deer tip toed around and only ate the 3 "pork chops" i had left. Its not like they were in a row or on the edge either.... Must of liked em! I mulched with grass clippings on tues before the rain and forgot to turn the fence back on.

Best deer repellent - one application of lead from a 30-06 single bolt Winchester.

Deer repellents work until the deer get hungry. Last year during the drought, my cantaloupes had so much cayenne pepper on them that they looked orange from a distance. The deer still ate every one.

This year I put up a deer fence. It's the cheap nylon netting with streamers tied on it for visibility. It's 7' tall and I ran some 50-lb test fishing line about a foot over the top and tied more streamers to that. Deer can see the color blue, so I used blue marking tape. I used pins for landscaping fabric to hold the bottom to the ground. My corner posts are 4x4s in concrete, but the other posts are just a 2x3 cable tied to a t-post. The fence is so light that the posts don't have to be strong. I used a white vinyl batten tape and stapler to attach it to the posts; the batten tape is what I used to hold on the end wall plastic on my high tunnel.

Cayenne itself doesn't work - need a potent capsian concentrate - and liquid fence doesn't work either - I built a 4' + hog fence with 9ft posts (1 ft into ground) and slid deer fencing nets over the posts - added dog gate from a kennel kit 5' wide x 6' high on both ends - - no one with long ears have entered this garden since !!!!
