Listada de Gandia
I've seen on a lot of websites claimings on this variety being a
Italian heirloom. Do any of you have any information regarding this? I think that it's Spanish mainly because Gandia is a city of Valencia, Spain and Listada means striped in Spanish. What do you think? Greetings, Ignacio. |

Ignacio,
I posted a similar question some time ago. I too think it sounds more Spanish than Italian as well. Hey, I have heaps of eggplant flowers and some fruit set. Bring it on. Feliz Navidad. Grubs. Oh, and have 12 grapes on me as the clock strikes 12. But why? |

Merry Christmas to you Grub,
Look at this link for the grape thing: http://www.topics-mag.com/internatl/...spain-uvas.htm It was supposed to start in 1909, and as the link says, it's very funny to see your family choking themselves and putting even more grapes inside their mouth trying to finish them on time. Best whises to you and your family. |

www.southernexposure.com says...
75 days. [Heirloom from France about 1850.] This egg-shaped Italian beauty has 5 to 6in. long fruits, purple with irreguílar white-stripes. A unique eggplant pleasing to both the eye and the palate. Appears to have some drought tolerance and sets fruit well under high heat. Seedlings of 'Listada de Gandia' are not as vigorous as other varieties, but mature plants set well under high heat and tolerate drought well. Does best in areas with a long warm growing season. The thin skin of 'Listada de Gandia' does not need to be peeled for cooking. So more confusion. Ciao. |
