What Do You Think?
I started noticing these 3 tomato plants have been getting yellow branch/leaf areas for about a week now. This morning, they suddenly look like this:
I'll post the pictures and then reply info. |

The first picture is Pink champagne. The other 3 are of Porter. They are planted in a raised bed 3' apart. Temperatures have been in the low to mid 60s for lows and 90-93 for highs. I sprayed them with Garden Safe 9 days ago.
In the third picture, I'm wondering about the sepal parts pointing upwards. Does that mean anything? I'll be near the computer all day, so if you need more info - ask away. What do you think is going on with these plants? |

It looks more like drought stress to me but I can't see any lesions with the concentric circle pattern that would identify it as EB.

Robert, I googled Garden Safe and they have several products. Which one do you have?

Have you ran a mower lately and kicked up a bunch of dust?

Sorry about your plants, but what would the lawnmower kicking up dust have to do with it?

I went ahead and cut the affected areas yesterday evening. I thought I would get a couple more pictures to share. I'm not sure how, but TV probably has a zoom function.
I looked for circular patterns and holes in the leaves but didn't find much. The lowest leaf does have a small hole in it. The first thing I'll look up this morning will be Early Blight (EB). I'm curious about how mowing and dust can affect the plant too. |

More pictures. I found this site among many others about EB http://www.planetnatural.com/pest-pr.../early-blight/
Another site in agreement http://www.ext.colostate.edu/mg/gardennotes/718.html This site mentions freckling spots. I saw many pictures of freckling, and I'm not finding it on the leaves I cut. Looks like I need to add bleach/water to the garden supply list. The raised bed is going to be rebuilt and resized anyway. I probably should wash all the boards with bleach water while I'm at it. |

You no more want to dust your plants from soils around the areas of where the plants have grown than you would to splash water and dirt on them. The dry dust settles on the plants and the moisture the plants give off is enough to kick the plague spores off again. Always try to mow on the leeward side of your garden or mow when it is still damp and not dusty. I am convinced the people that mow my neighbors yard infect me every year. Worth |
